Places of Worship
What does it take to translate faith, ritual and identity into built form?
At Arqus Design, our work in community architecture continues to evolve — not through a single typology or idea, but through an ongoing responsiveness to people, place and purpose.
Over time, this has led us into a diverse portfolio of deeply rewarding projects, including places of worship across Queensland — from mosques in Kuraby and Gladstone to the Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Calamvale.
Designing places of worship is unlike any other architectural undertaking. It requires more than form-making — it demands immersion.
Understanding belief systems, cultural identity, ritual, and symbolism is essential. Architecture becomes a medium through which faith is expressed, and where every spatial decision carries meaning.
Our role is to translate these traditions into built form — respectfully and carefully — while ensuring the building responds to contemporary conditions, local climate, and practical construction realities. It is a balance between heritage and modernity, symbolism and delivery.
